Babe Ruth Auction to Benefit Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/6/2016
Among the lengthy array of souvenirs and promotional items sponsored by Quaker Oats during the company's mid-1930s endorsement relationship with famed slugger Babe Ruth, the fascinating paperback presented here is one of the most engaging. Exponentially magnifying the appeal of this particular copy is the presence – on the flyleaf – of a simply spectacular Babe Ruth signature example.
Scripted in bold black fountain pen ink, the Hall of Famer's "Sincerely - Babe Ruth" inscription courses majestically across the otherwise blank, off-white page. Please note this is the only signed example of this book we have seen to date. We believe if there are others out there they are very few and far between.
The book, itself, is the 1935 Edition of Quaker's "Babe Ruth's Big Book of Baseball," which holds 64 pages inside its colorful 5" x 7-1/2" covers. The volume shows routine wear and cover faults. The interior is clean and, of course, protects its breathtaking Ruth signature. LOA from JSA (Cert. #Y84981).
Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
