The diminutive Hall of Famer Rabbit Maranville was honored with a testimonial dinner at the swanky Hotel Schenley in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in May of 1935. Maranville played 23 seasons in the National League, debuting for the Boston Braves in 1912 before playing his final season with Boston in 1935. Maranville led Braves to the 1914 World Series title, hitting .308 with three RBI in Boston’s four-game sweep of the Philadelphia A’s. In 1954, Maranville was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. This offered testimonial dinner program is dated to May 23rd, 1935. Maranville appeared as a pinch-hitter in the Boston’s 7-1 defeat to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Forbes Field earlier that day, making the Hotel Schenley (currently the William Pitt Student Union at the University of Pittsburgh) the natural location for his testimonial event. This testimonial program has been signed on the cover by 12 legendary baseball figures, including the Hall of Famers Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Pie Traynor, Rabbit Maranville, Paul Waner, Lloyd Waner, Bill McKechnie, and Johnny Evers.
