“Master Melvin” Mel Ott led the National League in home runs a staggering six times. The 12-time all-star was one of the most feared batters in the game, his most dominant stretch was from 1936 through 1938 where he not only led his New York Giants to back-to-back pennants, but also led the league in homers for three straight years. Mel Ott used this pre-model Hillerich & Bradsby bat during that explosive three-year stretch in which he added an even 100 home runs to his eventual total of 511, earning him a charter membership in the coveted 500 Home Run Club.

The bat shows heavy use with a handle crack. A piece missing from the knob has been professionally restored. As expected from one of the most feared batsmen in the NL, the front, right and left barrel exhibits checking from repeated ball contact along with several ball marks. Cleat imprints are found on the right and left barrel. The bat has been rubbed with oil that has caused an uneven color to its finish. PSA/DNA were unable to determine if this was applied during Ott’s playing career or at a later date. A Hall of Fame worth bat that is a direct link to the most productive three-year stretch in Mel Ott’s career. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (H53760) for the game use and has been graded a GU 7.
