Offered in this lot is a unique contract signed by Clark Griffith and presented to Elise Yawkey, the first wife of Boston Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey. This contract is accompanied by a typed letter signed by Clark Griffith that reads, in part, “It had been my main wish that I could gold you as a ‘dark horse’ until the middle of the season then when the race got to its heighth [sic], I would drag you out of the bull pen and from then on it would be just a ‘cake walk’ for the Senators”. The letter is dated to January 31, 1936. The contract is for the ceremonial value of $1.00, and like the letter it has been signed by Griffith in black pen.
