Rick Ferrell was one of the most influential defensive catchers in his day, and he parlayed his defensive prowess and on base ability at the plate into enshrinement into the Baseball Hall of Fame. His best seasons were with the Boston Red Sox here he teamed with his pitching brother, Wes, to form a tremendous battery. The 1936 season was Rick’s best seasons offensively, and was during this season when he wore these heavy flannel pants. Within the waistband is chain-stitched in red thread “R. Ferrell 2” and the number “36”, representing the year. Ferrell wore number two only during his Red Sox years. In the middle is stitched the “Spalding” manufacturer’s tag. All but one of the four original buttons is still present and functioning, and the inner crotch area exhibits some extra wear along the seams. The blue piping along each leg is near perfect and the sliding areas have ingrained dirt staining. The heavy wool flannel appears to have softened slightly over the years, but was still likely a bear to wear during those hot summer games. Full LOA from MEARS.
