Don Padgett held down home plate for the mid to late 1930’s Gas House Gang. Catching the Dean Brothers, Lon Warneke and Mort Cooper, Padgett carved out a nice career as a pre-war backstop. In the two seasons this bat dates to, 1938 and 1939, Padgett batted .271 and .399 platooning with Mickey Owen.
This Hillerich & Bradsby bat shows significant game use with a 9-inch crack in the handle. Deep stitch marks are visible and there is some checking from repeated ball contact present. The handle crack has been secured with clubhouse nails and a crisscross or adhesive tape. This is a nice piece of lumber that drove the Gas House Gang. This bat comes with an LOA from MEARS (308803) for the game use with a grade of A7.
