Johnny Vander Meer, Bill Lee and Mace Brown – each pitching three innings – shut down a lineup consisting of Joe DiMaggio, Jimmie Foxx and Lou Gehrig as the National League defeated the American League, 4-1, in the 1938 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Ernie Lombardi recorded two hits for the victorious NL squad.
Offered here is a Dieges & Clust manufactured 10K gold 1938 MLB All-Star Game ring top tie clasp pendant. This pendant was taken from Joe McCarthy’s original tie clip and mounted onto a gold ring band. McCarthy – who managed the New York Yankees to the 1938 World Series title – was manager of the AL in the All-Star Game. The intricately designed face reads “ALL STAR GAME AMERICAN LEAGUE”, detailed in enamel, around the image of a baseball which includes a star and “CINCINNATI 1938”. A diamond appears at the top, set on an image of an eagle. One side of the ring reads “N.L. – 4 A.L. – 1 1938” while the opposite side displays “ALL STAR 1938”. The inside of the band includes manufacturer and 10K marks and also reads “JOE McCARTHY MANAGER”. This ring is an approximate size 11 ½ and weighs approximately 24.8 grams. Total weight with the original clasp is approximately 29.4 grams. This comes with a LOA from Barry Halper.
