As the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, opened its doors in 1939 a legendary baseball game took place to mark the momentous occasion. “The Cavalcade of Baseball” was held on June 12th, 1939, contested between teams captained by Honus Wagner and Eddie Collins that both featured a plethora of all-time greats, including Mel Ott, Hank Greenberg, Arky Vaughan, Lefty Grove, and Babe Ruth. This was baseball’s centennial year, and the Cavalcade served to both christen the Hall and commemorate the growing and vast history of organized baseball.
