2019 Winter Auction Closing March 2
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/2/2019
Presented is a 60-card 1930s D64 Anonymous "Pinocchio Circus Cards" complete set, along with a variety of additional and very scarce, mail-redemption pieces associated with bread companies' Pinocchio promotion. The charming 2" x 3-3/4" trading cards feature individual cartoon performers from Walt Disney Productions' "Pinocchio Circus." The full-color character images are printed on white paper stock, and a bread-related recipe appears on each item's back (along with the tag-line "Buy the Bread that Brings Pinocchio Characters for Your Circus"). The unnumbered cards grade mostly EX to NM. The premium pieces are highlighted by the extremely elusive and colorful "Pinocchio Circus" sheet that features brilliant color and measures about 18" x 20" (twice-folded for mailing to 9" x 10"). The sheet was designed to be cut up and assembled to form a tableau for the issue's characters; the example presented here is fully intact. Other items include: 1) "Pinocchio Circus Ringmaster's Scrap Book and Guide," a 5" x 8-1/2", 20-page paper booklet that provides spaces for each of the cards. This piece as about VG/EX with a small tear at the spine and pencil markings on a few of the interior drawings; 2) "Ringmaster" paper hat-shaped cut-out, 9"-tall, NM; 3) Pinocchio Ad Letter on Schouten's Bakery (Keokuk, Iowa) letterhead, 8-3/8" x 10-7/8", one mailing fold at bottom edge; 4) "Ringmaster Guide," an 8-1/2" x 10" single sheet detailing assembly instructions for the Circus, NM; 5) Original Mailing Envelope - 9-1/2" x 10-1/2", attractive red Pinocchio graphics and 1939 Walt Disney Productions copyright on the front. The envelope concedes wear/damage to the brittle paper at the edges and ends. An incredibly well-preserved and fully complete array of survivors from a popular Disney promotion.
