1939 was the third of eight All-Star Games in which Joe McCarthy would manage the American League team – only Casey Stengel has managed more. Held in his home environs of Yankee Stadium, McCarthy skippered the AL to a 3-1 win over the senior league, helped along by a Joe DiMaggio home run and expert pitching by Red Ruffing, Bob Feller and Tommy Bridges who combined for a six-hitter. This All-Star Game presentation pin was made for Joe McCarthy in commemoration of his being manager of the American League squad. The pin has been beautifully crafted by Dieges & Clust and measures 1-inch square. A diamond is mounted in each corner and a golden baseball in the center proclaims “New York 1939”. “All Star Game American League” is written inside the blue enamel base paths. The reverse of the pin is engraved “Joe McCarthy” and is stamped with the "Dieges & Clust 10 Karat" hallmark. The pin shows light wear, most noticeably inside the diamond between 1st and 3rd bases and home plate. A beautiful custom-made All-Star press pin belonging to the Yankees’ legendary manager.
