Of the New York Yankees clubs that dominated baseball from 1936 to 1939, it is the latter that may have been the best of them all. After beating the Giants in six games in the 1936 World Series, the Yankees then swept the Giants in 1937 and the Cubs in 1938. The 1939 team roared into the season with a great balance of veterans and kids called up from their extensive farm system. Even with Lou Gehrig out of the lineup, the Yanks swept to the pennant, a full 17 games in front of Boston. The team then met the Reds in World Series, sweeping Cincinnati in four games to take their fourth straight World Championship.

This Reach American League ball brings together 28 members of what many baseball historians call the greatest club in Yankees history. Of the signatures, DiMaggio, one Gehrig (there are 2), Gomez, McCarthy and Dickey have been determined to be clubhouse signatures, but there are 23 other stand outs that are authentic. Lou Gehrig is the headliner, signed right on the sweet spot along with fellow Hall of Famers Red Ruffing and Joe Gordon. Joining him is the team’s ace reliever, Johnny Murphy, pitchers Steve Sundra and Bump Hadley, shortstop Frank Crosetti, infielder Bill Knickerbocker and outfielders Jake Powell and Charlie Keller. This Reach American League ball shows light toning and the shellack coating has flaked away in parts and this does lightly affect some signatures. The ball comes with a full LOA from JSA (X85714) for the signatures.
