Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Hall of Famer, in his debut appearance. Among more than 875 copies recorded in PSA’s census reporting, just thirteen examples have been placed at a higher, unqualified tier. Offered is a high-grade specimen of the Red Sox star's scarce and sensitive rookie card. Williams' first Play Ball card pictures the very young Boston outfielder in a classic batting pose showcasing his sweet swing. We're also treated to a clear view of his famous number "9," and even a glimpse of the centennial arm patch on his left sleeve. This card puts forth a clean, pack-fresh appearance. Its front and back surfaces are free of the print lines which are so common in this issue. The image is well-focused and displays amazing contrast. Immaculate white borders on every side are stunning in their brilliance, and are capped at each end by faultless corners. The item's reverse (posting the great ballplayer's name at the top in a proper series of upper-case letters) delivers exceptionally bold resolution. This collectible reminds the observer of the satisfaction to be found in capturing a top quality relic of a great player's past before he became a national treasure, sports icon and John Glenn's wingman in Korea! A centerpiece collectible, in Near Mint to Mint condition.
