     Presented is a very rare photograph of Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson during his collegiate football days at UCLA. Playing during the November 2, 1940 game between UCLA and Stanford at the Los Angeles Coliseum, Robinson is shown on the left side of this 7 x 9 inch black and white photograph getting ready to assist in a tackle of Stanford player Hugh Gallarneau wearing the number 28 jersey. Stanford won the game 20-14.

     The back of the photograph has a 3 x 7 inch yellow cut with blue type that reads: “STANFORD WINS AGAIN, 20 TO 14 LOS ANGELES, CALIF., STANFORD UNIVERSITY’S UNDEFEATED AND UNTIED FOOTBALL TEAM KEPT A CLEAR RECORD HERE TODAY IN A WILD 20 TO 14 VICTORY OVER THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIF-ORNIA AT LOS ANGELES BEFORE 60,000 SPECTATORS. THE STANFORD VICTORY WAS THE SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN OF THE SEASON FOR THE SO-CALLED “MIRACLE” TEAM OF COACH CLARK SHAUGHNESSY. IT WAS THE SIXTH DEFEAT FOR UCLA. PHOTO SHOWS #29 HUGH GALLARNEAU OF STANFORD BEING TACKLED BY A UCLA BRUIN XX PLAYER. #28 JACKIE ROBINSON OF UCLA IS ABOUT TO ASSIST HIS TEAM MATE IN THE TACKLE.” Also on the back of the photograph is an “ACME NEWS PICTURES” stamp and some hand written marks in pencil. This original photograph is in good condition with only minor edge and corner wear.
