Presented here is a letter signed by Theodore Roosevelt III, the eldest son of President Theodore Roosevelt. The younger Roosevelt was a veteran who served in the two World Wars, earning numerous honors and accolades for his bravery during combat. In World War II, Roosevelt was the only general to land on the beaches of Normandy by sea, leading the first wave of troops onto Utah Beach. Tragically, Roosevelt died a month after the invasion, succumbing to a heart attack at the age of 56.
This letter is dated to April 11th, 1940, when Roosevelt was an executive at Doubleday Books. The letter is addressed to Henry Bridges of the Woodmont Rod and Gun Club, a frequent haunt of Babe Ruth. Roosevelt signed the bottom of this letter in black pen. Also included are two typed and unsigned letters of Roosevelt’s. This item comes with a COA from PSA/DNA (AC83615).
