By 1940 Walt Disney and his gang of cartoonists had single handedly ushered in the "Golden Age" of animation. As early as 1934 Disney, always the forward thinker, dreamed of taking his short animated cartoons and expanding them into full-length movies. Disney's fore-sight resulted in 1937's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", a spectacular blockbuster which won an honorary Oscar. The success enabled Walt Disney Productions to expand ten-fold and began designing custom built campus for his studio in Burbank. This incredibly important contract dates from March 29, 1940 and certifies that Walter E. Disney is the duly elected president of Walt Disney Productions. The significance of the date is that it is just weeks before Walt and his artists moved in to the Burbank studio that would produce the greatest feature length cartoons in film history. The 8 1/2" x 13" document is typewritten on onion skin and is in excellent condition. There are several horizontal folds from mailing, staple holes in the top edge and a slight crease in the lower left corner. The highlight of this document is of course the animator's signature. Beautifully preserved for over 70 years, Disney has signed his full name of "Walter E. Disney" in his trademark whimsical hand. The signature is bold and large and looks to have been in a gold colored ink. Any signature of the beloved animator is highly prized but one featuring his full name in his lyrical penmanship is quite extraordinary. Comes with LOA from PSA/DNA.
