Offered in this lot is an unscored program and scorecard to the Kansas City Monarchs game against the Chicago American Giants on Independence Day, 1941 at Sportsman’s Park in St. Louis, Missouri. The star player on the day was Satchel Paige, who took the mound for the Monarchs against the Chicago nine. Paige received first billing on this program as the author touted the “celebrated speed and fireball pitching of Leroy ‘Satchel’ Paige”, “America’s one-man ball team pitching for [the] Kansas City Monarchs”. A photograph of Paige graces the cover of this program, which also touts an “added attraction” between Scullin Steel and the St. Louis Giants. This program is in good condition.
