Inaugural Great American Trading Card Auction- Closing October 1
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/2/2016
Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Hall of Famer. Among more than 625 copies recorded in PSA's census reporting, just six examples have been placed at a higher, unqualified tier. This is, without a doubt, DiMaggio's most famous and popular gumcard commemorative. The 1941 baseball season was a tremendously successful one for the "Yankee Clipper," as he won the American League MVP (over Ted Williams and his .406 average) and hit safely in 56 straight games. His inclusion in Play Ball's first color set—produced during the same year—was an obvious, positive choice for Gum, Incorporated. While it's border alignment favors the bottom-right, its corners are well-formed and exhibit virtually no apparent wear. Both sides of the card is and clean and untoned. Here is as solid a copy of Joe DiMaggio's '41 Play Ball card as any advanced collector could hope to obtain, in Near Mint to Mint condition.
