The 1941 edition of the South American Soccer Championships was held at the Estadio Nacional de Chile in Santiago, with five of South America’s elite soccer nations competing for the grand prize. Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, and Uruguay all contested the 1941 title, with each nation playing each other once. Uruguay allowed only one goal the entire tournament, in a 1-0 defeat to Argentina, that gave La Albiceleste the tournament championship by the thinnest of margins. Uruguay would have their revenge in 1942, defeating Argentina at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo to win their eighth Campeonato Sudamericano title.

This offered 1941 South American Soccer Championship participant medal originates from the estate of Uruguay midfielder and captain Obdulio Varela. The medal is shaped like a shield, with five enamel designs around a high-relief etching of a soccer player in mid-kick. Also etched on the face of the medal is “Campeonato Sudamericano De Football” and “Santiago De Chile 1941”. A red, white, and blue ribbon attached to a pin is affixed to the medal. This medal is in good condition. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
