Babe Ruth, unfailingly gracious to those who showed him genuine kindness, has boldly signed this typewritten thank-you letter. His strongly inked, black fountain pen signature concludes a typewritten note in which he expresses gratitude to a Colorado nun who inspired correspondence to an ailing Babe from her young charges: "I was especially happy to receive notes from all the little fellows in your home. I have written a personal letter to each one of them but as I think you are responsible, I want to thank you personally." The letter and Ruth's splendid scripting adorn a 5-1/2" x 8" sheet of Samuel Goldwyn Inc. letterhead, constituting a missive dated June 1, 1942. Ruth was in Hollywood during this time to work on a film – The Pride of the Yankees – produced by Goldwyn. The letter reveals standard mailing folds but remains bright and clean. Accompanied by a photographic image of Ruth, the paper item resides in an attractive matting within a framed display of 16" x 22-1/2" total dimensions. LOA from JSA (Cert. #Y72587). Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
