In 1943, the New York Yankees amassed a 98-56 regular season record, easily winning the American League by 13 ½ games over the Washington Senators en route to five-game World Series victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. 28 signatures are on this Spalding Official League baseball, including the legendary signature of Babe Ruth, who signed his name in bold black ink on the north side panel up against the red laces.

All of the remaining signatures have been signed in black ink and include manager and Hall of Famer Joe McCarthy and pitcher Rollie Hemsley, who signed their names on the sweet spot. The north panel contains Ruth’s signature along with Bud Metheny, Charlie Keller, Marius Russo, Tommy Byrne, Bill Johnson, Tuck Stainback, and Bill Zuber. The south panel has the signatures of Nick Etten, Jim Turner, Oscar Grimes, Charlie Wensloff, Hank Borowy, Ken Sears and George Stirnweiss. The east panel has the signatures of Roy Weatherly, Marv Breuer, John Schulte, Ernie Bonham, Hall of Famer Bill Dickey and Atley Donald. The west panel has Spud Chandler, Hall of Famer Joe Gordon, Johnny Lindell, Johnny Murphy and Frank Crosetti. This baseball displays toning and some chipping which has affected some of the signatures. The signatures are light but still readable and Ruth’s signature is bold. This team-signed baseball comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (A91614).
