Offered is a 1945 Mickey Mantle eighth grade promotion program booklet. The 6 x 9-inch white paper booklet, printed in black, is folded in half and is printed with the legend “Eighth Grade Promotion Exercises Commerce Junior High School Commerce, Oklahoma High School Auditorium May 16, 1945” on the front cover. The first interior page has the “Program” for the day’s events, while the second page has the “Class Roll”. Mantle is listed at the top of the second column as “Mickey C. Mantle”. The back page is blank. The white paper booklet has some brown stains in the center and the left edge from storage and age. Mantle was born on October 20, 1931, in Spavinaw, Oklahoma, the son of Lovell (Richardson) Mantle (1904–1995) and Elven Charles "Mutt" Mantle (1912-1952). When Mantle was four years old, his family moved to the nearby town of Commerce, Oklahoma, where his father worked in lead and zinc mines. After his eighth grade graduation, Mantle went on to star in football, basketball and baseball at Commerce High School, graduating in 1949.
