Presented is the 1947-1948 Greater Olney (suburban Philadelphia) Student League highest scorer trophy presented to Philly schoolboy basketball legend Tom Gola. The 4½ x 10-inch gold and brown metal trophy includes a 4½-inch figure of a basketball player holding a basketball with both hands at his right side mounted on a 5¼-inch hollow base. The base is engraved with the legend “Greater Olney B.C. Student League Wm. H. Lochten Sr. Highest Scorer Trophy to Thomas Gola 85 Points in 7 Games 1947-48”. Gola was praised as a great all-around player as a high school student at La Salle College High School, where he led the Explorers to a Philadelphia Catholic League Championship in 1950. He entered La Salle a year after another Philadelphia basketball Hall of Famer, Paul Arizin, graduated from Villanova. He went on to play college basketball at LaSalle College (now University), winning the 1952 NIT Championship and the 1954 NCAA Championship.
