Despite battling the cancer that would ultimately take his life, Babe Ruth was still a willing and able ambassador to the game of baseball. One of his appearances in his later life came on August 5, 1947, almost a year before he died, when he was the guest of honor at Victory Field in Indianapolis, Indiana for the American Legion Junior Baseball Nite as part of his American Legion Goodwill Tour. Victory Field was home of the Indianapolis Indians and Ruth took the time to shake hands with the players and coaches and pose for pictures. This offered program was the official program for the “American Legion Junior Baseball Nite”. This program is slightly toned, giving it a cream-colored look and measures 8 ½ x 11 inches. Ruth’s face occupies most of the front of the program with “AMERICAN LEGION JUNIOR BASEBALL NITE VICTORY FIELD AUGUST 5, 1947” above his face and “BABE RUTH Souvenir Program Courtesy of Your Friendly FORD and LINCOLN-MERCURY Dealers” printed below. The back of this program has the remaining sponsors listed. The program is in fair condition with vertical and horizontal creases across the front. This program has been authenticated by Beckett Grading Services (0006340651) grading a GOOD 2 and encapsulated in a 9 ¾ x 13-inch holder.
