The Illinois Fighting Illini college football team completed the 1946 regular season with a record of 7-2, earning a berth in the Rose Bowl, played on January 1, 1947 in Pasadena, California. They would take on the UCLA Bruins, who finished their regular season with an undefeated mark of 10-0. Illinois upset UCLA, 45-14, as Illini running backs Buddy Young and Julius Rykovich were named co-MVPs of the game. Offered here is a 1947 Rose Bowl 10K gold football pendant which was presented to Illinois All-America player Alex Agase. This football-shaped pendant – complete with an image of a rose – reads “ROSE BOWL” in red (with wear shown to the first letters), along with “NEW YEARS DAY PASADENA, CALIFORNIA 1947” below. The back side displays “ALEX AGASE GUARD” as well as a “10K” mark. This item weighs approximately 8.0 grams. This item comes with a letter of provenance from the Agase family.
