Babe Ruth Auction To Benefit Babe Ruth Foundation Closing February 18
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2017
Art Fletcher was a former shortstop for the New York Giants and Philadelphia Phillies who enjoyed a long post-playing career as a coach for the New York Yankees. He managed the Yankees for the last 11 games of the 1929 season after the tragic death of manager Miller Huggins. In this hand-written letter, he is confirming to Yankee secretary Arthur “Red” Patterson that he will be attending the Silver Anniversary celebration of Yankee Stadium on June 13th, 1948. This event would become famous for being Babe Ruth’s final public appearance at “The House That Ruth Built” before his death from cancer later that summer. Fletcher sent this letter on May 25, 1948, from Collinsville, Illinois. He signed the bottom of the letter in black pen. This letter comes with a PSA/DNA LOA (AA06089). Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
