Joe Louis was one of the most fearsome boxers of his day, a crushing heavyweight who won 68 of his 71 career fights. He retired in 1951, after reigning as heavyweight champion for 140 months. Offered here is a pink copy of a boxing license that was issued to the champ in December of 1948. This license was issued by the “COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA” from the State Athletic Commission. The CLASS OF LICENSE is handwritten with “Box”, the AMOUNT $5, DATE “12-14-48” and “RECEIPT No. 20067 in red print. “Joe Louis” is handwritten in the “ISSUED TO” line with his address written in as “555 Edgemont Ave N.Y.”. The “AT” box was filled in with “Conv. Hall” with the “CITY” filled in with “Phila.”. The card measures 3 ½ x 5 inches with tear marks on the left side. A great item celebrating one of the greatest boxers of all-time.
