Thomas Connolly was a Hall of Fame umpire who worked the first game at Yankee Stadium in 1923. In this letter, he is responding to the Yankees’ invitation to attend the Silver Anniversary celebration of Yankee Stadium in 1948. This event is most famous for being the legendary Babe Ruth’s final appearance at Yankee Stadium. This letter is typed on Official American League stationary, and addressed to Arthur Patterson, a secretary for the Yankees. The letter confirms Connolly’s desire to attend the festivities in the Bronx on June 13th, 1948. The letter is in excellent condition, save for the creases where it was folded into an envelope. Connolly signed the letter in black pen. This item comes with a PSA/DNA LOA (AA06136). Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
