Waite Hoyt was a Hall of Fame pitcher who spent the prime of his career with the New York Yankees. He was the staff ace on the 1927 team that won 110 games and the World Series that season. Hoyt led the American League in wins that campaign, picking up 22 wins in 32 starts. One of Babe Ruth’s closest friends, Hoyt wrote a book called “Babe Ruth As I Knew Him” about the venerated Yankee slugger. This letter was typed by Hoyt on June 29th, 1948, and sent to Yankees Vice-President George Weiss. In it, Hoyt thanks Weiss for putting together the Yankee Stadium Silver Anniversary celebration a few weeks prior. This event would become most famous for being Babe Ruth’s final public appearance at Yankee Stadium. Hoyt signed the letter in black pen. This item comes with a PSA/DNA LOA (AA06092). Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
