Offered here is a 1949 Brooklyn Dodgers Uniform Player’s Contract between the Dodgers and outfielder Cal Abrams. 1949 was Abrams debut season with Brooklyn as he appeared in eight games and garnering 31 plate appearances. Abrams would play eight seasons in the Majors, playing for the Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox in addition to the Dodgers. Abrams’ contract calls for him to make $6,000 for the 1949 season. The contract reads in part “Between [BROOKLYN NATIONAL LEAGUE BASEBALL CLUB, INC.] herein called the Club, and [CALVIN ROSS ABRAMS] of [2253 East 28th St., Brooklyn, N.Y.], herein called the Player. Under the “Payment” section it reads “For performance of the Player’s services and promises hereunder the Club will pay the Player the sum of $[at the rate of SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS ($6,000.00) for the season]”. On the reverse, the contract has been signed by Abrams as “Calvin Abrams” in black pen on the (Player) line and by Hall of Famer Branch Rickey on the (President) line. This contract has been matted and framed to a dimension of 23 ½ x 19 ½ inches. Both sides of the contract can be seen. This item comes with a LOA from the family of Cal Abrams and a LOA from Beckett Authentication.
