On a team of standout ballplayers and iconic characters, Carl Furillo carved out a unique niche for himself. From 1949 through 1959, Furillo ruled left field at Ebbets Field. Renowned for the blue-collar work ethic that endeared him to Brooklyn’s fans, Furillo tirelessly studied the bizarre angles and contours of Ebbets Field’s right field wall until he knew by heart how a ball would carom off its surface. Where other outfielders would routinely misplay balls that turned into extra base hits, Furillo and his glove cost the opposition countless runs. And, while most ballplayer’s and their batting averages wilted in the August heat, Furillo seemed to thrive on the stifling humidity. His late season burst of power helped the Dodgers win seven pennants and two World Series’.

This Hillerich & Bradsby bat was used by Furillo during the 1949 season, his first full season as Brooklyn’s gatekeeper in right field. Furillo batted .322 with 18 home runs and came in 6th for the league MVP Award, helping the Dodgers win the pennant. His C117L model bat is un-cracked and shows outstanding use. Many ball marks with stitch impressions cover the barrel and cleat marks are visible on the left and back barrel. The model number “C117L” is stamped into the knob end over which Furillo’s number “6” has been applied in black paint. “Carl Furillo” is stamped into the bats’ barrel and scuffmarks from contact with the ground and other bats can be seen throughout this impressive gamer. This bat comes with a Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA (1B10993) who have graded this bat a GU 9.
