In the summer of 1949, right in the middle of what would be Jackie Robinson’s National League MVP season, the Hall of Famer was called to testify before the US House of Representatives Committee on Un-American Activities in regards to statements made by athlete/actor Paul Robeson. Fearing that his career would be put in jeopardy, Robinson reluctantly agreed to testify.

Presented is this 6 x 8 inch black and white photograph of Robinson during his testimony. Robinson is pictured in this close-up picture in a light-colored suit holding a piece of paper in his left hand while looking up away from the camera. A microphone is placed to the left of the piece of paper he his holding. The back of the photo has a black “ACME PHOTO” stamp with a 6 x 2 inch cut that reads ROBINSON TESTIFIES ON NEGRO LOYLATY WASHINGTON, D.C. - - BROOKLYN SECOND BASEMAN JACKI ROBINSON TESTIFYING BEFORE THE HOUSE UN-AMERICAN ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE ON THE LOYALTY OF AMERICAN NEGROES. WA NY CHI MGS LON PAR CREDIT (ACME PHOTO) 7/18/49. “JUL 21 1949” is brightly stamped in red upside down below the cut.

This photograph is in good condition with only minor edge and corner wear. There is slight warping on the upper and lower edge of this photograph. This is a tremendous photograph of the great Hall of Famer during the height of McCarthyism in this country.
