Presented is a 1949 Mickey Mantle Commerce High School senior class graduation photograph. The 8 x 10-inch black and white photo features a group of 37 students in graduation caps and gowns standing at the front entrance of the Commerce, Oklahoma school. Mantle is visible in the second row from the top, second from the right, with his head tilted slightly to his right. The photograph is stamped in blue on the back “Photograph by Orrick Sparlin” and “Miami, Okla.” stamped in black. The day after Mantle graduated from Commerce High School, New York Yankees scout Tom Greenwade to sign him to a minor league contract. Mantle signed for $140 per month with a $1,500 signing bonus. He made his Major League Baseball debut with the Yankees during the 1951 season in rightfield alongside centerfielder Joe DiMaggio.
