In 1950, the man who would become the 35th President of the United States of America was many steps lower on the political ladder, serving as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Massachusetts 11th District. John F. Kennedy had just embarked on his political career, joining the House of Representatives in January of 1947. Kennedy served in this role until 1953, when he won election to the United States Senate, and later the presidency.
In this letter, Kennedy writes to John H. Artesani, a member of the United States Navy. Kennedy managed to get Artesani an assignment with the Atlantic Reserve Fleet Group at Boston thanks to his connections from his own time in the Navy. Kennedy ended the letter with the kind words “With kind personal regards, I am, / Sincerely yours,”. He signed the bottom of the letter in black pen. This letter was typed on official House of Representatives letterhead and dated to March 27th, 1950. This letter comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AD00317).
