Offered in this lot is a plaster model of the bronze sculpture outside of the Estadio Centenario honoring the 1950 Uruguayan World Cup champions team. That team, led by the magnificent talents of Juan Alberto Schiaffino, Alcides Ghiggia, and the captain Obdulio Varela, defeated a mighty Brazil squad to win the nation’s second World Cup title in as many tries. This plaster model shows four entwined figures standing on a circular pedestal, with two of the figures coming together to lift a pedestal above their heads. A removeable piece, in the shape of the Jules Rimet Trophy, is meant to stand on this elevated pedestal. The Jules Rimet Trophy is included with this lot, and measures approximately four inches tall. Please note that one of the statues wings suffers from a minor chip. Overall, this plaster model measures 13.5 inches tall and stands on a base with a diameter of 6.5 inches. A plaster plaque etched with the name of the artist, “A. Chihan”, is affixed to the base. This sculpture is a fantastic piece of World Cup history! This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
