Offered in this lot is a magnificent issue of “A Gazeta Esportiva Ilustrada”, a Portuguese-language recounting of the magical, agonizing, and triumphant 1950 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The Brazilians were the overwhelming favorites, with their winner’s medals minted before their XI reached the pitch for the final time. It was a double-salvo of Uruguayan goals in the second half – from Juan Alberto Schiaffino and Alcides Ghiggia – that powered La Celeste to their second World Cup title. This magazine, which originates from the estate of World Cup hero Alcides Ghiggia, shows some wear, with the front and back cover no longer attached to the binding and several loose pages. The upper portion of the front cover has been removed. At the back of the book is a series of portraits, with short biographies, of the 1950 Brazil team. This item is a fantastic relic from the incomparable 1950 World Cup! This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
