During the mid-to-late 1950’s Braves third baseman Eddie Mathews joined with Hank Aaron to give Milwaukee the most powerful 3-4 combo in the game. Twice the big third baseman led the National League in homers: 47 in 1953 and 46 in 1959. By the time Mathews wrapped up his Hall of Fame career the record books had him at 512 home runs making him only the seventh player to gain membership to the exclusive 500 Home Run Club.

     This bat dates to Mathews' rookie year in the majors through the season in which Milwaukee unseated the Yankees as World Champions. The Adirondack I13A model bat displays excellent use with a repaired handle crack. There is slight checking from repeated ball contact on the barrel and a small sliver is missing from the center brand. Several ball marks with green ink transfers and stitch impressions can be seen on the barrel along with cleat imprints. The model number I13A is stamped into the knob end. This bat dates from the very beginning of Eddie Mathews Hall of Fame career and has been made all the more desirable by the third baseman having signed the bat’s barrel in black marker. A real Cooperstown-worthy bat that comes with a full Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA (1B06092) who have graded this bat a GU 8 and a LOA from JSA (Y80412) for the signature.
