Graded PR 1 by SGC. Hall of Famer, in his first gum card appearance. Presented is a credible example of Mickey Mantle's "true" rookie card. In the inevitable comparison to its physically larger, double-printed rival, this sought-after piece is perpetually undervalued. And, there always seem to be fewer 1951 Bowman "High Number"-series Mantle rookies available than there are of the slugger's 1952 Topps counterpart. The offered card sports an almost laughably hideous splotch of red fluid residue on its front, with smaller traces of the same on the reverse. The item's image and text remain fully discernible, however. There are hundreds (or thousands!) of wantlists out there, representing otherwise comprehensive collections lacking number 253, and this card will be perfect to satisfy one of them. A very tough and immensely popular collectible, in Poor condition (but doubtless possessing an interesting history that begs speculation).
