Hall of Fame first baseman George Sisler was presented with this 14-karat gold Longines wrist watch in 1951, in honor of the 75th anniversary of the National League. Sisler played the final three seasons of his career in the Senior Circuit after starring for 12 seasons on the St. Louis Browns of the American League. Sisler was one of the best first basemen in baseball during his career, winning the 1922 American League MVP Award after hitting for an astronomical .420 batting average. Sisler used his impeccable eye at the plate and quickness on the basepaths to collect of 2,800 hits in his career while maintaining a sterling .340 batting average despite beginning his pro career as a pitcher. He retired after the 1930 season, and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame as a member of its fourth class, in 1939.
This Swiss wrist watch has a rectangular face, with gold hands and numerals. “George Sisler Hall of Fame N.L. Anniversary 1876-1951” is engraved on the back of the face. The wrist band is an expanding Speidel wrist band. This watch appears to be in working condition, and it comes with a LOA from the Sisler family.
