Presented is a Mickey Mantle autograph on a cancelled U.S. Postal Service 1-cent postcard, postmarked June 18, 1951 from New York, NY. The autograph of the Baseball Hall of Famer is in blue ink in the center of the blank side of the 3½ x 5½-inch postcard, alongside a 1 ½ x 3¾-inch black and white newspaper photo pasted on the card of Mantle in a Yankees cap. Mantle made his Major League Baseball debut with the New York Yankees on April 17, 1951 – two months before this postcard was mailed. The postcard displays some toning due to age, but does not affect the signature. The postmark is from the Grand Central Station Post Office, and is addressed to “John Adams, 560 Albany, Ferndale 20, Mich.” In blue ink. Inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974, Mantle is one of the game’s greatest sluggers, as well as the greatest switch-hitter in history. He retired from the Yankees following the 1968 season. The 20-time All-Star had a .298 career batting average, with 2,415 hits, 536 home runs, and 1,509 RBI. This item comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authorization (A07868).
