2020 Holiday Auction Closing December 12-13
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2020
Offered here is an incredible early-career 8 x 10-inch photograph of the great Mickey Mantle taken by renowned photographer Don Wingfield during the 1952 season. Winfield’s credentials included Life and Look magazines, along with numerous photos used in team publications and trading cards. Mantle is shown here in his home white New York Yankees’ pinstriped jersey with the clear image of the patch on his left sleeve worn by the Yankees in 1952 honoring their 50th season. Mantle is looking slightly off-camera to his left and has a dark-colored long sleeve undershirt beneath his jersey. The picture appears to have been taken outside the Yankees dugout as the top of what appears to be the dugout is behind Mantle with the seats in the background (along with a quartet of spectators). The picture displays beautifully with only minor edge wear. This photo has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA (84261333), who have classified this photograph as a Type I.
