As one of the Big Three baseball card sets (along with the T206 and 1933 Goudey), the 1952 Topps set is the most popular of all the post war gum card issues ever created. It is a beauty in both design and content. It was the first gum issue to have detailed bios and listed stats on the back along with full color photos on the front. The set includes the very tough low numbers cards, with back variations, and the ultra-scarce high number series which carries the well known Mickey Mantle rookie card plus a dozen other Hall of Famers. A total of 33 cards have been graded and encapsulated by PSA. The Mickey Mantle rookie card grades a PSA VG-EX 4. On first glance it appears much nicer, appearing to be EX-MT with superb color and crisp registration, eye-popping color with a brilliant blue background sky and "The Mick" wielding a golden yellow bat. However, there are two small wrinkles along the edges for the two-stroke penalty. Includes: Graded Cards – PSA NM-MT 8: 1 card, #302 Surkont; PSA NM 7: 3 cards w/#260, 288 and 304; PSA EX-MT 6: 5 cards w/#243 Doby, 259, 284, 295 and 301; PSA EX+ 5.5: 1 card, #80 Wehmeier; PSA EX 5: 10 cards w/19 Bucha, 29 Kluszewski, 88 Feller, 128, 195 Minoso, 266, 283, 294, 297 and 315 Durocher; PSA VG-EX+ 4.5: 1 card, #312 Robinson; PSA VG-EX 4: 9 cards w/#11 Rizzuto, 57 Lopat, 175 Martin, 261 Mays, 311 Mantle, 313 Thomson, 333 Reese, 400 Dickey and 406 Nuxhall; PSA VG+: 1 card, #377 Dressen; PSA VG 3: 1 card w/#314 Campanella; PSA GOOD 2: 2 cards w/191 Berra and 407 Mathews. Ungraded Cards - 1 Pafko (GD/VG), 20 Loes (GD), 26 Irvin (EX), 33 Spahn (GD), 36 Hodges (GD), 37 Snider (FR/GD), 48 Page (VG), 49 Sain (GD), 59 Roberts (GD/VG), 65 Slaughter (GD), 66 Roe (VG), 67 Reynolds (VG/EX), 91 Schoendienst (GD/VG), 122 Jensen (VG), 129 Mize (GD), 215 Bauer (GD/VG), 216 Ashburn (VG), 246 Kell (FR/GD), 268 Lemon (GD), 274 Branca (VG/EX), 277 Wynn (VG), 321 Black (VG), 342 Labine (VG), 347 Adcock (GD/VG), 369 Groat (VG/EX), 372 McDougald (VG), 373 Turner (VG/EX), 384 Crosetti (GD/VG), 392 Wilhelm (GD/VG), 394 Herman (VG) and 396 Williams (VG). Grades 5% NM, 28% EX to EX/MT, 38% VG to VG/EX, 25% GD, 4% lesser. This is a very consistent complete set of 1952 Topps cards, the king of all the post war gum sets, with very little extensive wear, but plenty of nice high end examples. This issue is not often seen sold as a complete set, especially with such a large amount of graded cards. Complete set of 407 cards including 33 PSA graded.
