Graded VG-EX+ 4.5 by BVG. Hall of Famer. This is one of just four examples at its tier (with four graded higher) among a total of forty-six copies recorded in BVG's census reporting. Although the #407 Mathews card has less notoriety as a condition rarity than the issue's #1 entry, Pafko, it's still a very elusive collectible for anyone putting together a quality 1952 Topps set. The image on the front of the offered Mathews is quite well-positioned for its type – particularly in view of the dramatic skewing so often induced by the card's original location on its factory press sheet. This specimen concedes mild to moderate corner wear; the reverse exhibits bold printing. The card's BVG condition report: Centering: 7.5, Corners: 4, Edges: 7, Surface: 8.5. Here's a pleasing example of this sought-after '52 Topps "High Number" card, in Very Good to Excellent-plus condition.
