It is a testament to the strength of the Yankees franchise that the team was able to easily repeat as World Champions in 1952 despite the loss of the retired Joe DiMaggio. A young Mickey Mantle stepped into DiMaggio’s cleats and hit .311 with 23 home runs down the pennant stretch, keeping a surging Cleveland Indians team at bay. The Yankees met the Dodgers in the World Series for the third time in six years and won their 4th straight World Championship. The ball has been signed by 27 members of the 1952 World Champs including Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle, Casey Stengel, Yogi Berra, Phil Rizzuto, and Johnny Mize, plus the recently retired Joe DiMaggio. The ball has been mislabeled “1951” and that may be the reason for DiMaggio’s presence on the ball. The other members of the ’52 Yanks on the ball include Billy Martin, Gene Woodling, Kal Segrist, Hank Bauer, Eddie Lopat, Vic Raschi, Irv Noren, Ralph Houk, Charlie Silvera, Jim McDonald, Joe Ostrowski, Allie Reynolds, Johnny Sain, Tommy Morgan, Bill Miller, Bob Kuzava, Gil McDougald, Jim Brideweser, and Tom Gorman. This ball comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA for the signatures.
