Former catcher Del Rice spent 17 seasons in the Major Leagues, mostly with the famed St. Louis Cardinals. Rice had one season in which he was selected as an all-star and that was during the 1953 season. Offered here is the very jersey Rice wore during the 1953 season with the St. Louis Cardinals. This size 44 cream-colored home Cardinals jersey is a classic flannel jersey with all of the trimmings. “Cardinals” is sewn on across the zipper-front in classic red chenille stitching with the iconic gold bat and two cardinals perched on each end – all in chenille stitching. Red piping runs around the collar and down both sides of the zipper and joining at the center where the jersey tails off. “Del Rice 53XX” is embroidered in red on the lower front left tail and the Rawlings tag and “44” patch are sewn on the inside back collar. The sleeves have red piping on the end and the underarms have venting holes. The back of the jersey has Rice’s number “18” sewn on in blue and red felt. This jersey displays moderate wear and presents beautifully. The wear includes fabric pilling from catcher’s gear and blemishes on the felt numbers, which are slightly faded. This jersey comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
