Albert Einstein is without peer in the scientific community. A brilliant theoretical physicist and philosopher, Einstein’s theorems were light-years ahead of their time. His formula for mass-energy equivalence, popularly known as e=mc2, is a fundamental building block of our understanding of how the universe operates. A 1921 recipient of the Nobel Prize, Einstein’s name is now synonymous with “genius”. In the 1930’s, due to the rise of the NSDAP party in Germany, Einstein emigrated to the United States, assuming a post at the Institute of Advanced Study at Princeton University. In retaliation, Hitler turned Einstein’s humble cottage into a Nazi Youth staging camp. Einstein passed away in 1955 after years of venerated work in the United States.
In this typed letter, dated to October 6th, 1954, Einstein thanked Mrs. Phoebe Noble of Victoria College, British Columbia, for her gift of a shawl on his personal stationary. His humor shows through in this letter, as he tells Mrs. Noble that her gift “is very appropriate for old people are inclined to feel cold”. He signed the letter in black pen as “A. Einstein”. This letter is included in a 32 x 16 ½ inch framed display, along with a black and white photograph of Einstein and a small plaque. This item comes with a full LOA from JSA.
