Former Major League catcher Mickey Owen spent 13 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, Brooklyn Dodgers, Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox. Owen had a respectable .255 career average and was a 4-time all-star from 1941-1944. Owens spent his last season with the Red Sox where he played in 32 games to close out his career after coming back from a three-year hiatus.
Offered here is this very rare Boston Red Sox road flannel button-down jersey that was worn by Owen during his final career season and only season with the Red Sox. This jersey was manufactured by Tim McAuliffe Inc. of Boston, Massachusetts and features “BOSTON” that is sewn on in navy blue felt material. The Tim McAuliffe Inc. tag is sewn on the bottom front left tail with “1954”, “42”, “2 in” and “11” embroidered in navy blue. The back of the jersey has Owen’s number “11” sewn on in navy blue felt material. The jersey displays moderate game use and has numerous moth holes particularly on the left sleeve and chest, but the jersey itself is in otherwise good condition considering the age. Game used flannel jerseys from the 1950s are extremely rare to find and this jersey comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
