For the second time in the decade Leo Durocher was able to steer his Giants into the World Series. Whereas 1951 went down to the wire, his 1954 team won by a comfortable margin, with aces Sal Maglie, Johnny Antonelli and Ruben Gomez combining to win 52 games between them. The Giants then faced the much-favored Indians in the Series but surprised the world by sweeping the 111-game winners in 4-straight.
