Offered is a 1954 Tom Gola La Salle College Outstanding Participation in sport award issued by The Dell Sports Group. The 9½ x 12½-inch white paper certificate is mounted in a white matte and displayed in a 17½ x 21¾-inch black wood with gold accent and glass frame. The award, presented to the then-junior star of the La Salle Explorers basketball team, bears the legend “The Dell Sports Group Award for Outstanding Participation in American Sport This certificate is awarded to Tom Gola La Salle College In recognition of his devotion to the highest standards of sportsmanship and…. His selection as an All-American Player of the Year in Basketball in 1954”. The award includes a gold paper seal in the lower left of the certificate from New York’s Dell Publishing Company, publishers of annual sports yearbooks on basketball, baseball and football as well as “Who’s Who in Sports”.  The award was given to the future Hall of Famer at the dawn of his college basketball career, after he led the Explorers to the NCAA basketball championship in 1954 and was named Tournament MVP. That same season he was selected as National Player of the Year. This item comes with a LOA from the Gola family.
