Presented is a 1954 Tom Gola NCAA men’s basketball championship plaque. The 1 x 9 x 13-inch brown wood plaque with bronze metal elements was presented to the former LaSalle University basketball star along with his teammates after the Explorers won the 1954 NCAA National Championship.  The top center of the plaque features a 5¼-inch raised bronze medallion with the figure of a nude basketball player with the legend “National Collegiate Basketball Championship”. Below the medallion is a 3½ x 6-inch bronze shield with laurel bunting, engraved “16th Annual Tournament ’54 First Place” above the logo of the NCAA. Gola starred as a college freshman and led La Salle to the 1952 NIT championship. Gola paced the Explorers to the NCAA basketball championship in 1954 and was named Tournament MVP. That same season he was selected as the National Player of the Year. This item comes with a LOA from Tom Gola’s estate.
