Observers of the culture have documented a resurgence in popularity of the color yellow – on cars, clothes and homes, for example – following several decades of relative disfavor. Aficionados of 1955 Topps baseball, however, have never waned in their affection for the shade. The bright yellow backgrounds seen on many '55 Topps cards are among the classic set's trademarks.

      The offered example of Harmon Killebrew's rookie card trumpets the glorious character of the yellow hue, and deploys the tone in a manner that highlights the youthful likeness of the Senators' slugger to supreme advantage.
